What is the difference between a surface aerator and a fountain?

A surface aerator pulls water from below the water surface and thrusts it out of the pond into the air just a couple of feet out of the water. It is oxygenated and splashes back down into the pond continuously aerating the water. Before long the entire pond will be looking better by the day.
