What is a fountain aerator?

A fountain aerator is designed to aerate your pond while also providing a small, but pleasant water display. It is closer to a fountain than an aerator in that aerators operate underwater and pull up water from deeper beneath the surface of the water.

Is a pond fountain as good as an aerator?

Since aerators can pull up deeper water, they can fully aerate a pond. Fountains will only aerate the area directly around and beneath the fountain. Fountain aerators might pull slightly more water than a fountain, but not what an aerator will do.

Do I need an aerator if I have a fountain?

If you have a deep pond then an aerator is going to work much better than a fountain. Once the water gets more than 6ft to 8ft deep you are going to need an aerator to fully service your pond. If you want a fountain for the water display and your pond is 10 ft deep, we would recommend using both a fountain and an aerator.

How do fountains aerate water?

Fountains pull water up from around the fountain base and thrust it into the air creating an eye-catching water display. In doing this it circulates the water around the fountain which helps start the aeration process and helps remove toxins and algae. Also, as the water is sprayed into the air it gets oxygenated and splashes back into the water. Doing this continuously will clean up the water around the fountain and aerate the water within several feet of the surface.
